- Gained experience working on two wall paintings from 13th century to the 17th century.
- The projects included the removal of 7 layers of lime plaster to uncover the wall paintings and consolidate areas of delamination.
- Working with the Churches Conservation Trust gave me the experience to work on site along side professionals.
To work within a company that specializes in decorative objects, where I can further my skills and knowledge.
Exhibition Object:
Three wooden 17th Century painted panels
- The panels portray satire on the legal profession. Treatment will be carried out in a group with five other students.
- There is damage to the panels from where they have been previously displayed, you can see this from nails within the panel and from holes of where it would have been fastened.
- Evidence of previous pest infestation due to holes in the surface and around the edges.
- Warping of the wood and cracks around the edges were observed and could have been caused by incorrect RH and temperature conditions in previous storage or display locations.
- We intend to clean the surface and remove any wax residues from the surface.
- The cracks within the wood shall be consolidated with fish glue and balsa wood, which shall be colour matched to the surface.
- The paint edges, which has flaked or cracked, shall be consolidated with fish glue or Isinglass.
- A frame/support shall also be made for the exhibition to display the panels together as one object.
